Kansas Governor Declares State of Emergency Ahead of Severe Storm Threat

TOPEKA,
Kan. (KCTV) - On Monday morning, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly declared a
State of Disaster Emergency in response to the severe weather forecast
to impact the state.
With
this declaration, the Kansas Response Plan has been activated,
empowering emergency managers across the state to prepare personnel and
resources in advance of the incoming storms.
According
to forecasts from Governor Kelly's office and the KCTV First Warn 5
Weather Team, Kansas is facing the threat of strong storms, large hail,
high winds, and potential tornadoes in the coming days.
"This
declaration provides emergency managers across the state the necessary
tools to prepare their personnel and equipment ahead of the storms,"
Governor Kelly said in a statement released after issuing the 11:41 a.m.
declaration. "Kansans are urged to postpone outdoor activities."
The
severe weather threat has also prompted the Kansas City Royals to move
up the start time of their Monday night game against the Milwaukee
Brewers.
Kansas
Governor Laura Kelly has issued a State of Disaster Emergency
proclamation in advance of an approaching severe weather system. The
proclamation mobilizes state resources and allows for further emergency
preparations as the state braces for potentially dangerous storms.
The
announcement comes as weather forecasters warn of the potential for
damaging winds, large hail, heavy rainfall, and even tornadoes across
parts of Kansas in the coming days. Governor Kelly cited the need to
ensure the safety and wellbeing of all Kansans as the motivation behind
the emergency declaration.
By
enacting the State of Disaster Emergency, Governor Kelly has empowered
state agencies to coordinate emergency response efforts with local
authorities. The proclamation also facilitates the activation of the
Kansas Division of Emergency Management to oversee preparedness and
recovery operations.
Residents
are encouraged to stay vigilant, monitor local weather reports, and
heed any instructions from state and local officials as this severe
weather threat develops in the coming hours and days. The State of
Disaster Emergency will remain in effect until the threat has passed and
recovery efforts are underway.
